Poverty and Homelessness Week activities April 2009

Poverty and Homelessness Week activities April 2009

For our contribution to the week for Poverty and Homelessness our staff team decided to make up food hampers for clients we know are struggling with debt or who lack stable accommodation. We approached local shops, churches and schools to see if they would like to contribute. We have been overwhelmed by the generous donations we have received.

We are now putting together food hampers which will be distributed to people they are working with who are struggling to make ends meet and who really appreciate the help. We are hoping to extend the appeal and raise funds, via raffles, and further donations. The money raised will be used to assist people in our area, over the next few months and hopefully into the future.

Those who have contributed include:

Pupils at St. Anne’s RC Primary School; Burbage Primary; Buxton Infants; Buxton Community School; Tesco; Co-op Late Shop Market Place; Co-op Spring Gardens; Sainsbury’s; Morrison’s; Spa Bakery; Salon One; The Source Café; Buxton United Reformed Church; Buxton Methodist Church; Manor Court Cottages; Connexions Service and Social Services. Plus many individuals who also have contributed

We raised £150 from a raffle to win a week-end in a cottage in the Peak District, which was won by Mike Scawen a Private Landlord who works a lot with our clients in the High Peak. Altogether with all the donations combined, we have raised in excess of £400 and we also have a cellar room full of food for those who need it. So we are very pleased about how it has gone and intend to carry it on throughout the year.
