Putting Down Roots Pilot

As part of its work towards being able to deliver Open College Network programmes within Adullam projects, Liberty House has been piloting a new program with its young people called Putting Down Roots.

It’s a short course about understanding your local community. Through a series of art based activities, collages, photography and some group discussions aided by the ever resourceful ‘Daisy the Talking Cow’ (don’t ask…) several young people took part in the activities and created some amazing artwork, had some lively discussions and consumed a lot of tea and biscuits.

One piece of work which was exceptionally good was the creation of some posters around staying safe in the local area which we’re going to use in our Welcome Pack and to display around the project.

So far, two Liberty House residents have completed all the activities which lead them to a nationally recognised OCN Award in Progression. Other residents are hot on their heels with just a couple of activities to finish off before they get their certificate.

This is the first time we’ve been through this process of registering learners, putting together portfolios and applying for certificates and it’s working well so far. We’re hoping to develop loads of similar programmes which our young people can take part in to develop their skills, get qualifications and have some fun along the way. This is going to form a slight change in work for Liberty House as we’re hoping to be able to offer quality housing, support and learning to our residents in the future and accredit some of the work they’re doing already towards becoming independent.
