Merseyside – resident involvement

Merseyside – resident involvement

The Floating Support Service held a Resident Involvement Meeting on Thursday 30th April 2009 at The Adult Learning Centre.

The theme of the day was to promote Training and Employment to our Service Users.

Guest speakers were Steph and Ella who were both from The Liverpool Volunteer Bureau, they both did a great presentation on the Volunteering opportunities across the Merseyside area and how to access their service. This proved very popular with our Service Users as they were quick to complete registration forms – with a view to take up a volunteer placement within their local areas.

Following a smashing lunch we were given a presentation from The Furniture Resource Centre (Friends of Adullam). Neina Cave who is the (Business Manager) gave a fantastic presentation on the Training and Employment they offer to people in the Merseyside area who have been unemployed for a minimum of 5 years. They have great benefits – starting salary is £15,000 per annum, driving lessons and finishing their training with a Heavy Goods Licence! This enables them to go on to further employment.

Our final guest speakers were Lynne Davies and Jon Barends who are tutors at The Adult Learning Centre they attended the meeting and gave our Residents a great insight to courses they offer in their local centres. Residents also had an opportunity to enrol on courses on the day. This was a great success as three of our Residents enrolled for courses and some have shown an interest in enrolling on courses starting September 2009.

All the residents reported having a great day and are looking forward to the next Meeting.
