Global Buffet
Liberty House

The event was jointly run by Groundwork Project, residents and staff at Liberty House. The aim was to educate people on identifying foods
from around the world as well as eating these and catered for local communities. It was also an opportunity to invite the local community,
partner agencies and residents along with friends and family to get to know more about our project.
Some of the entertainment features included calculation of carbon footprints. Residents helped to calculate attendees carbon footprints by asking
a series of questions which focussed on their carbon energy use. An example question was “How many baths or showers do you take a week?”.
Other entertainment included biscuit decorating (baked by residents) where participants could donate 20p to decorate a biscuit with the money going
to Sponsor a Child from another country. Not to forget the fabulous face painting! Some of the residents were brave at volunteering to have their
face painted with designs such as a pretty butterfly, an England flag and a more contemporary design.
To add to the warm friendly atmosphere Thulani played one of his African CD’s which prompted toe tapping, finger drumming and the timely hip wiggling
from the master himself! A great day was had by all with a good turn out from local families, resident’s friends and family and the local community
police support officers.
Staff would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all residents who participated and congratulate them on the success of the event. Also, thank you to
the residents who helped to clean the project afterwards. We had a great evening playing pool and music and residents were rewarded with a mixture
of take away curries, naan breads and rice. We all sat down and ate together. Something residents think we should do more often. It was a very
enjoyable day. WELL DONE!!!!
