About Us
Adullam is a 'not for profit' organisation. Any surplus money we make is invested back into our services to create places where people want to live.
The name comes from the Old Testament
"David escaped to the cave of Adullam….. All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered round him and he became their leader." 1 Samuel 22 v1-2.
We were founded in the Birmingham area in 1972 by Walter Moore. Working with the local Probation Service, he established the first few houses in Birmingham, buying them with his own money and working largely on his own. Over the next thirteen years, three other independent organisations were developed at Winsford, Liverpool and Stockport. Together, these provided 100 bed spaces. In 1985, the four separate associations merged to form a single association.
More than just providing affordable housing, we also offer people significant social support and a bridge to a better life. We've been delivering housing support and advice plus community-based services to residents and partner agencies for the past 35 years.
Mental illness, drug addiction and prolific offending behaviour are just some of the complex social issues we face every day.
